One year ago, the changes in my health plan were unexpected because I was diagnosed with prediabetes. That sort of news was alarming and I thought, It’s time for me to start managing my lifestyle. That’s when I found out out about the Adult Healthy Weight and Diabetes program that is available in Bath and North East Somerset under Wellbeing Service. For me, this FREE program was the ultimate breakthrough when it came to my learning.
Within the first phone call that I made to the Community Wellbeing Hub, I felt encouraged. The warmly welcomed staff of the center provided information concerning the available services, including medical, physiotherapy, nutrition and weight loss, exercise for weight loss, and type 2 diabetes. Fortunately for me, as a Bath working citizen, I was advised that I could apply despite the fact that I reside outside the area.
The programme was initiated by consultations in which my physical condition, schedules, and eating plans were assessed. Notable was their individuality—one solution per client. Having consulted with a coach, I was oriented toward an organized yet rather customizable plan strictly adhere to which correlates to portion control, a healthy diet, and a regular workout.
Perhaps the most significant were the group workshops. This made people find people to relate with thus creating a sense of morale boosting among the users. All the sessions included useful recommendations on what types of meals to choose, what nice exercises to do, and how to deal with cravings. It also had specific physical activities that fit my abilities in a way that helped me adhere to the programme conveniently.
Within the three-month period, I saw an improvement. I shed 8 kilograms and felt more energetic, but the most essential thing was a normal level of glucose in my blood. What I liked most was how interdisciplinary it was; again, it was not only learning about managing weight and diabetes from a physiologic standpoint but from an emotional standpoint as well.
