Yesterday, during my drive back from Ohio, I listened to a ton of podcasts (they help me stay alert during long drives). And one in particular was Medicine Stories with Amber Magnolia Hill. On this particular episode she interviewed her mentor Kami McBride. They discussed kitchen herbalism-which is the basis for herbalism in my opinion-using herbs as food. One thing really struck me that was said: “The magic…happens when women gather to make food and medicine together (with our uniques lineage of women standing behind us)”. And this got me thinking about my next workshop.
I’ve done a kitchen herbalism workshop in the past-but I want to do it a little different this time. Instead of y’all just sitting and listening. I want to create a communal medicine making experience. Lots of tables set up for us to just organically create kitchen medicine. Infused oils and vinegars, honeys, herbal salts and butters, pestos, teas, and so on.
I bought Kami’s book and have so many recipes for us to experiment with. This would be a *free* gathering as long as each person coming contributes with supplies (brings their own bottles, jars, and base oils, vinegar, etc-there will be an official supply list). Anyone who doesn’t want to or can’t bring supplies, I’ll come up with a cost for me to bring extra.
I think this will not only help create a basis of medicine for each person to go home with, but the action of gathering and creating medicine IS medicine in itself.
Let me know if you are interested (local folks only, sorry!) and I’ll start working on a date and official event/supply magnolia list.
