I was stressed out last spring, plain and simple. I was busy at work, and always seemed to be busy doing something (worrying mostly, leaving no space for self-care). I was scrolling through social media one night when I saw a friends post about her journey with the Peloton bike. Inspired by her excitement and lively community, I thought it was about time to do something different.
But with some semblance of research — and a heart-pounding trip to DICK’S Sporting Goods — I ended up right in front of a pretty shiny new Peloton bike that was just too darn pretty to ignore. I could see using it to ride away my troubles, so I took the plunge right then and there, and took it home with me. I wanted to binge read it so setting up was like an adventure I was ready for.
When I first sat on the bike, my heart was racing and I was scared. So I opened my peloton app and it was a very warm and sunny instructor who welcomed me. I got lost to the rhythm, the music pouring out of the loudspeakers. My stress started to evaporate with each turn of the pedals. Those virtual classes were formidable — and so invigorating. I never imagined I could push myself this hard and with every ride, I became stronger, both physically and mentally.
The best part though for me, was the community part of Peloton. I completed some virtual challenges, shared my win with others and celebrated milestones! Now, this camaraderie motivated me to stick with it and enjoy the journey. If I was feeling low at all that day, a quick bike ride completely changed my mood, showing me that I belonged somewhere bigger than myself.
Fast forward a few months, and living with a Peloton is an integral part of my life. It inspires me, helps me blow off some steam and reminds me that some time for myself is just as important as any deadline. Each ride takes you a step away from stress and a step closer to happiness. Not only have I improved my fitness; I have found a community that inspires me every day, each pedal at a time.
