Hi, how has life been lately? Hope all is well. What’s new? New boyfriend? New car? New job? What’s new for me is that I’m learning French, a new language for me. Basically I love learning languages and have previously learned Korean, Japanese and now French. But, you know what? I’m learning on a whim and casually without courses or tutors.
So, what’s helping me learn? The answer is the Duolingo app. Maybe you need an app to learn a foreign language too. Let me break it down for you. Duolingo from America is an educational technology company that offers language courses and language certification. Duolingo has more than 40 languages that can be learned from English to Spanish to lesser learned languages like Welsh, Irish and Swahili. This app can be used on iOS and Android.
Duolingo has many interesting features for its users. There is a Listen feature, a collection of learning mistakes, various challenges and goals to be achieved within a certain time. The interface is very pleasant and refreshing to the eyes with a colorful design that will not make you bored. If you are learning a language that has its own alphabet like Korean, you will be taught the letters first until you are fluent.
You can use this app for free but of course the free version means more ads but most of the features can be used only with the free version. If you want to enjoy a better and free learning experience, you can use Super Duolingo by subscription.
Overall my experience with Duolingo has been very impactful and helpful. When learning Korean, I who really didn’t know Korean could memorize the letters in three days, for real. The learning process goes step by step and is more of a hands-on concept without much theory but somehow it really worked for me. While learning here I felt like I was chatting with someone without a real tutor. It feels like playing a game but with great benefits.
